Baby & Toddler Safety & Stair Gates

Your baby learning to crawl or walk is such a bittersweet time in their development and, while you're cheering them on, it's important to create a safe environment ready for your little one becoming mobile. From babyproofing plug sockets and securing cupboards from exploring little hands, to moving things out of reach and making stairs safe, baby' safety is never far a parent's thoughts, nor is it from ours so we design our baby gates and test them with child safety in mind.

Baby gates

When your baby starts crawling or cruising, you have a tiny explorer on your hands! Always on the move and curious about how far they can go, crawlers and walkers are unstoppable - until you place some quality baby gates around the house! While it’s certainly important for your little one to explore, baby gates are critical for keeping them safe and away from stairs or any other harmful areas.

How to choose a baby gate

We carry a range of safety gates, so you’ll be able to find the design that suits your home best. You’ll also find various styles of baby gates to meet your needs. Choose from auto close, quick install, extra-wide extending and other types of gates. Additional features like a two-way opening door, double-locking mechanisms, and auto-closing hinges bring a new layer of safety to each zone, too.

Munchkin gates are mounted in one of two ways:

  1. Wall-mounted or wall-fix gates are usually installed by drilling into the surrounding walls
  2. Pressure-mounted or pressure-fit gates require no drilling and rely on pressure to stay in place

It is recommended to use a wall-mounted gate on any stairway opening, top or bottom, and a pressure-fit or removable style for doorways. Pressure-fit gates and gates with a step-over bar shouldn't ever be used at the top of stairs.

How to measure for a safety gate

Measuring tapes at the ready! Before buying your baby gate, be sure to measure the height and width you'll need to cover your space. While most safety gates are designed to fit standard doorways, some fit wider spaces and gate extensions are also available. Take the time to measure the doorway or stairway you intend to install your gate in. We recommend measuring from the narrowest point, usually the skirting board, and ensuring the gate you pick isn't wider than that.
